New York City is undoubtedly the capital city of the world at the moment, and for the foreseeable future; it offers something for everyone. The sights – Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central Park, to name but a few – are well known and as impressive as their reputations suggest. But it isn’t just the famous sights which are on a huge scale - every visitor’s neck must be hurting within a day or two of constantly looking up at all of the ridiculously tall buildings. The people and the various areas in which they live are as varied as anywhere else in the world – for example, China Town offers busy streets and markets the likes of which you can’t imagine, Times Square provides the huge buildings, bright lights and noise which everyone associates with the city, while places like Soho and Greenwich Village offer a more Bohemian atmosphere, with hippy types, poets, public speakers, break dancers, etc.
In New York, you can not fail to find things which will entertain and excite; in ten days, I saw and did more than I must do in the North-East of England in a year! - Free outdoor music events, huge sports events, unusual bars, cafes and restaurants, live music of any kind, unparalleled clubbing events (day and night), plays and musicals, art galleries, museums, shops, and parks to observe the strange characters who occupy the city, New York really does offer something from and for just about any type of person imaginable.
